Social Skills for Schools

Students with Autism Need a Great Deal of Teacher Time and Attention

Simple changes can make a great difference to classroom dynamics and allow children with Autism to participate independently. — Cheryl Turner SLP (ret.)

Does your student tantrum at the smallest change when you just wish they could tell you what is wrong?

Teachers have so many roles to play:

Students may be waiting to see a specialist or waiting to get into therapy or perhaps they are in a program but you are not seeing the results transfer to the classroom.

Service delivery does not have to be hard. Thirty minutes per day of simple, scripted, one-on-one programming can change outcomes for children. Your SLP can supervise the paraprofessional delivering the program via the data collection and remote video surveillance.

Imagine your student reading social situations and communicating their wants/needs and thoughts.

Pathways to Connection helps students develop requesting and looking, helping them understand what is going on, and reducing undesirable behaviors while laying the groundwork for real communication.

Help your student develop the foundational skills needed for real authentic communication.

Track your student's progress with an evidence based alternative to compliance training.

Unlike rigid protocols, Pathways to Connection develops authentic interactions by working through developmental stages that may have been missed. This methodology respects neurodiversity while building essential skills for independence and lifelong communication success.

By learning just two missed developmental steps, your students will be well on their way to improved socialization.

Why this program and why now?

Cheryl Turner has a passion for working with children who have Autism and other forms of social interaction differences. After more than forty years of practice as a speech-language pathologist, Cheryl has seen many programs come and go. From ABA, to PECS to DIRFloorTime, to Reference and Regulate, and TEACCH, Cheryl has found that each program has its pros and cons. Unfortunately, many programs require on-going adult intervention rather than independent natural communication.

Many programs are expensive to learn and take years to master making the use of paraprofessionals impractical. Cheryl understands fiscal and personnel restraints. She understands the need to keep it simple so that any educational assistant can pick up the program and implement it with ease.

Cheryl has put together a program that focuses on missed developmental steps that are simple (and fun) to teach and helps students communicate naturally and most of all understand what others may be thinking in order to remain calm and participate in social interaction.

The wait is over.

Your students can develop the first two critical steps needed for social interaction reducing undesired behaviors.
